Question: I try to meditate, listen to audio books, and read the bible. However, I cannot keep myself in that changed state. I just keep sliding back into what I don't want. I go back to doing things that I hate. Please help me with this. I am tired of living in circles.
My reply:
Know that you can never permanently "solve" or "fix" what you are describing - it is the nature of life.
Dealing with those situations will always require a daily effort - a daily re-commitment to your values, daily meditation, daily renewal.
People often say that motivation doesn't last.
Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily.

What Ziglar said about motivation applies equally to inspiration.
May the world be kind to you, and may your own thoughts be gentle upon yourself.

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this, it is very uplifting.
ReplyDeleteFor me my mind is like dirty water, I can't see an opening,, I worry alot, I have depression & anxiety, I'm alone, recently lost 5 friends in seven months, I have noone, no children, just me & my cat. Have health problems that confine me, I'm not happy at all, I'm miserable, I feel like I exist, not living, I read positive affirmations everyday, most of the time they do not help, I have nothing to look forward to, I just sit & watch TV, I do very little housework because of my physical problems. I try to go out everyday for at least 15-20 minutes, just to get me out of the house, that helps some, I feel safe in my house, there's alot of criminal activity where I live.:(
ReplyDeletePat: some thoughts...
ReplyDelete1. You don't mention a spiritual practice. That is very helpful to most people.
2. You are likely to be happier if you help others to be happier - even if if is just something you do for others over the telephone or internet.
3. Focus on the good things that you do have - however small they may seem.
May the world be kind to you, and may your own thoughts be gentle upon yourself.
