Reader question: How can I get rid of bad dreams?
My answer:
That depends on the nature of the bad dreams.
If the dreams are about a single subject, address that issue. For example, if the dreams are about a fight you had with someone, focus on forgiving that person. If the dreams are about getting fired from your job, have a conversation with yourself about the way in which you might actually be better off if you lost your current job.
However, if your nightmares are varied, and the only common element is that they are scary, focus on your big fears of life and death. If you can identify your biggest worries and stresses, address those. If you believe in a benevolent God and in an afterlife, reaffirm those beliefs. Remind yourself that you are protected and safe.
Another cause of bad dreams can be your physical state. Make sure you get some exercise, consider doing yoga and/or qigong, eat well, avoid caffeine and excess alcohol, and get regular medical checkups.
May the world be kind to you, and may your own thoughts be gentle upon yourself.
